GOOFERVILLE Update – July 14

Ahoy, compañeras y -ñeros:

ZOIKS! This year's going to be somekinda stupid-fun! We've got a stellar group of dandy humans already in, some threatening to join, etc. And then there're the rest of them yahooze. OO AH ooooOOOOO!

Alrighty: some b'iness: If you've paid, yer in like parafin - thankya! thankya! thankya! for getting me yer camp dues promptly. If you haven't yet paid, get on it right away - we need dues to cover up-front costs, and we need'm now! (PayPal'm to me at paypal@propellent.com, or mail or hand me a check or cash.)

I'll be sending these ditties out at least weekly to keep everyone in the know on what's what with GOOFERVILLE. Please take a few minutes to read'm through THOROUGHLY (with a cocktail or a doob, perhaps), and, 'course, feel free to email or call me if you care to or need to respond to any of'm. (I have multiple email addresses for some of you, and none for Dana -- for those affected, please get back to me on which is best to use.) I'll also post'm to the GOOFERVILLE site shortly after sending'm.

That being that, here's this:

NOTES ON GOOFERVILLE's CURRENT EVOLUTION

1. Current paid/confirmed GOOFERVILLErs: 20

2. Our cargo truck's secured: Thurs., Aug 25, through Wed., Sept 7. Everyone who can chip in on loading and unloading here in the City on Thursday/Friday (Aug 25-26) and Tuesday/Wednesday (Sept 6-7) please do. The Where of it will be available soon.

3. You can find our PDF'd camp plans -- top and front view layouts -- as well as the clean-up plan, at http://www.gooferville.org. The Plan will likely undergo some adjustments based on where the Theme Camp Czars place us and how much territory They afford us -- I'm still waiting to hear back.

4. If you've got a bead on any other potential GOOFERVILLErs -- people of kindly disposition, cooperative mentality, top-notch debauchers, so-on-so-forth -- we've still got room, so let'm know.

CAMP CONTRIBUTIONS & INVOLVEMENT

1. In the near future, I'll be posting a calendar of events and a list of day-to-day shit that needs to be done around camp. As I mentioned earlier, everyone'll be expected to sign up for something and to remain sane enough to fulfill their responsibilities. We're talking stuff like swapping out trash bags, a single 2-3 hour tent-manager shift, getting bar ice, etc. Sharing the workload'll enable everyone to have the maximum free time to dive into the rest of Burning Man throughout the week.

2. Steve and I'll need help in the very immediate future with some logistical stuff: camp dues collection, securing staging materials, booze donations, etc...which'll involve phone calls, for the most part. If you have time and inclination to help out, let me know right away -- and thanks in advance.

3. We're looking at throwing a GOOFERVILLE fundraiser party in August at my friend's warehouse space (right around the corner from Anon Salon) featuring the various performance/entertainment people within our camp doing their respective things. Tentative date is Friday, August 12. Let me know if you can perform and/or help out (with the door, the bar, decorating and/or clean-up). Confirmed as of last night: CHUB and GOOFERMAN.

MISCELLANEOUS POOP

1. We're going to be hosting a Klown/circus party on Thursday night at GOOFERVILLE. As soon as we know where we're situated, I'm going to open up the stage/tent schedule to the masses (with a circus/carny/oddities emphasis) and begin booking so we can bring a published schedule with us as well as plop it onto the Webernet in advance. Our resident DJs - 3.5 strong - and GOOFERMAN, and anyone else in our camp, will have distinct priority, obviously.

2. Methinks it'd be cool to post a small bio and photo of each and every GOOFERVILLEr on the GOOFERVILLE website to give the billions interested in such things a bit of a taste of us. So send along a few autobiographical sentences -- real, bogus, or both -- and whatever photo you'd like, and i'll get on it.And thus, the latest. At any time, feel free to hit me up with anything on your GOOFERVILLE mind that you want addressed publicly (within this group) or privately.

More soon. Hup!

GOOFERVILLE Update – July 22

Ahoy, maties!

- As of last night, we're confirmed for our Friday, August 12 underground fundraiser, which'll actually be above ground at and in my pal Trevor's warehouse space (called ARSPACE) on 9th at Folsom, right around the corner from Anon Salon. Please start spreading the word: CHUB, GOOFERMAN, more (can ya, ECC, Delachaux, Bender, Meilani?). Once we've solidified the bill, i'll get some keen flyers printed up for universal distribution. Along with promotion (hit up all your friends (phone calls work best), email lists, etc.), we'll need help with everything, so if you can stick around town to help out with decorating, event duties, clean-up, and full enjoyment of the party, that'd be dang boss.

- DangerAss (AKA Helen) will be contacting you all shortly regarding setting up a summit meeting, a state of the union jobber. if possible, please do what you can to make it (or to call in if we can get ye ole conference call capability together by then

- We're officially themed and placed by the BM Theme Camp People...but we don't find out exactly where or the size of our nation til this coming Wednesday. stay tuned.

- WATER: along with a large water container, we'll be using 5-gallon plastic water jugs for water storage. Like Steve mentioned earlier, you can get hand pumps for'm on eBay, usually for $5-10. We'll also be devising an Acquisition and Cleaning Scheme within a week, which'll we'll need everyone to participate in to some extent - painless stuff, worry not.

- STUFF: As usual, our cargo truck's available to take your stuff up so you can drive up, over or down with just roadtrip goods and coolers if you so choose. Plan on putting whatever'll fit into those 15-gallon or so plastic, LIDDED bins you can pick up at Home Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. -- bikes, tents, sleeping bags, etc. being the exceptions. Makes packing the truck much more of a sane affair. We'll have a drop-off location for you to deliver your stuff on or ideally prior to Thursday, August 25.

- DRIVING THERE: Just to plant the seed while i'm thinking about it: For you new types, keep in mind that once you leave I-80 for the last leg of the trip, you'll be driving through a few reservation towns which are patrolled by their own police. Some forewarning: They're mighty particular about their speed limits - 16 MPH in a 15 MPH zone could well get you a ticket, which has to be paid on the spot (they're under their own jurisdiction)...so tread lightly.

- If you're interested in recruiting anyone else for our camp, we've still got space available

GOOFERVILLE MEETING - July 31

Some statistics

- Gooferville address: 9:30 and Esplanade
- Estimated Gooferville population for 2005: 40
- Trash barrels (for Goofercampers only): 4
- Showers: 2
- Gooferbudget: $2,400 ($1,200 of which is for the truck)

Layout

Go to the Gooferville website (www.gooferville.org) for site plans; also keep watching there for a work signup sheet and task list. The front performance/public area will be 60 feet square, with a 20 foot square stage (the stage is identical to last year's). The Gooferville truck will be the back wall of the stage and will separate the public from the private area. The bar will be set up to the left of the stage. There will be a "ribbon roof" over the whole area, about 8 feet overhead. Six lamp poles will outline the area with a 500 watt flood light on each. Everything is powered by one main generator, and there is a secondary generator for our private camp use.

Our private area will be something like last year; go behind the truck and you will enter our main "commons" area with a shaded seating area for Gooferville campers (this is for camp use and is not part of the public area). There will be 4 trash barrels around this area for our private use (the trash will go back on the Goofertruck). Note that this year there is no kitchen... you're on your own for cooking. However water is provided and will be available here in five gallon jugs; these will have pumps in them so you don't have to mess with the sloppy tip-over method. There will also be an evaporation pond for the shower runoff.

Neighborhood

Our neighbors will be Snowflake Village, The Life-Sized Mouse Trap, El Circo, and I believe Flaming Lotus Girls. Note also that we are one block from the 10 o'clock rave camps... as you well know, they go 24/7 so bring heavy-duty ear plugs (if you plan to sleep, that is).

Schedule

12-Aug Gooferville Fundraiser
25-Aug Truck loading in San Francisco (all day and night)
26-Aug Truck arrives at Burning Man
27-Aug Camp construction
28-Aug Camp construction
29-Aug Drink heavily
31-Aug Entertainment (live shows on stage at night; DJing during other times)
01-Sep Gooferville's main performance/party night
02-Sep Entertainment
03-Sep Entertainment
05-Sep Camp teardown; truck loading
06-Sep Truck leaves Burning Man
07-Sep Truck unloading in SF

What can I help with?

Boe and Steve will be doing the majority of the pre-construction starting immediately. Anyone interested to help could do so next weekend (August 5/6); talk to one of them first to see whether there is still work to be done. People will be needed most for truck loading and unloading, and camp construction. People will also be needed for operation of the camp, such as bartending and stage management. A signup sheet and list of work roles will be posted to the website.

The camp also needs circus decor, which you can either create or buy. Think sideshow banners, for example. And get things in red and/or yellow whenever possible.

Do you have a way to get booze at wholesale (or better) prices? We'll be buying a lot for the bar, so any ideas would be great.

-----

This Sunday (August 21) - Bloody Mary-fueled work day at the Tin Can, the warehouse space afforded us by the patron saint and fashion diva Morning Love. ALL HANDS ON DECK. Deb'll be bartending, which could sabotage the day...accordingly, the work'll be the kind easily performed by buzzed apes, but still of the needs-to-be-done variety. Doors open at 1pm and we'll go til 7pm or so. Painting, cleaning, filling water jugs, testing and patching inflatables, testing lights, decorating tarps, etc. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO JOIN US

The Tin Can's at the corner of 20th and Shotwell Sts - the only Quonset hut you'll find there. The entrance is on Shotwell.

My phone: 415.377.4465

(By the way, Miranda (AKA aforementioned Morning Love) is part of the Funk'n Trunk show at Levende Lounge this Sunday from 4-7 - costumes, mighty cool clothing, etc. from local designers. Consider stopping by after helping out at the Tin Can)

------

We load the truck Friday, Aug 26; our caravan heads up first thing Saturday morning. Get anything you want on that there truck over to the Tin Can by Thursday night (i'll be there pretty late). REMEMBER: PLASTIC BINS RULE SUPREME - PUT EVERYTHING YOU CAN INTO PLASTIC BINS...AND REMOVE YOUR BIKES FRONT TIRE IF POSSIBLE (tape it to the bike frame or we'll figure out orphans when we get there).

We'll also need help loading the truck Friday, so PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO JOIN US - and feel free to call me in advance on that Friday to see where we're at on things.

-----

WATER: Some of you've decided that you want to bring up your own drinking water. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE PART OF THAT 'SOME OF YOU' so that i can plan the supplying and packing accordingly.-----Thanks to everyone who helped out with the fundraiser! It got the necessary people paid, plus we ended up with a profit (already consumed, 'course). Great time of it, perfect crowd! i'll get pictures posted at gooferville.org once i get ahold of'm.

-----

BOOZE: As our coffers are now balanced, we don't have additional funds to put into our booze supply, so we're going with the same Plan B we've used every year thus far: EVERYONE BRING TWO BOTTLES OF CHEAP-ASS, 1.75 LITER BOOZE AND AS MUCH MIXER (soda water, cranberry, tonic, other juices, etc.) AS YOU CAN to stock our public bar, plus anything you want for personal use (the latter'll be protected in our own private bar). We're going to have a hump of a lot more traffic this year due to our premier placement, y'see.

-----

Lastly, check out our site at www.gooferville.org for calendar additions, etc.
